When it comes to a dreamy, lush guitar sounding song, I’m in. Some may refer to this sound as “shoe gaze” but to avoid pinpointing specific genres, I will point you to Melbourne’s Hideous Towns. ‘Heart Break’ is a song that one can play on repeat, listening and pining for a far away crush. Or it’s a song that is shared with close friends, relishing a summer evening.
With ‘Heart Break’, Hideous Towns brings everything one loves about a song that floats along, sounding like something that could have been made in the 80’s, without sounding stale. From their Facebook page, Hideous Towns possess a wry sense of humor and photos that embody a look and feel of early 90’s that clearly comes through with the songs that they make.
While listening to Heart Break I feel the urge to go on long scenic drives and stare out the window. Preferably, driving to some body of water, sitting staring out while thinking contemplatively about life, time, and where I’m going to get my next cup of coffee. Allowing thoughts to wander, to gaze into space, where eventually my stare lands at my shoes. Shoe gaze indeed.
