Rising from the depths of New Zealand Maya Payne seems to be making waves of her own, following in the footsteps of New Zealand’s musical royalty Lorde, who once upon a time proved to us all that there’s more to the snowy mountains and vast greenery landscapes that is depicted within the Lord of The Rings saga.
Since her adolescent age of 16 she has been penning together tracks that are pretty mature for a young New Zealand schoolgirl. But since the release of her well received singles ‘FRAGILE’ and ‘If Only’ which are infused with dance beats and powerful female vocals, Maya promised a release of her debut EP. But frankly, she isn’t one to disappoint. Despite no sign of an EP release as of yet, Maya’s latest musical offering. ‘Falling’ is musical simplicity. Its powerful, emotive, pathing the way to great things.
The life of an international popstar isn’t such a far-fetched dream, filming music videos in exotic Greek islands is second nature for Maya. Ok she may have been travelling on her summer vacation, but nonetheless, music has become a way of life for the kiwi artist.
Over the past few months Maya has been producing tracks with an experimental approach. She seeks to find a balance within her music, promising her early released tracks ‘will have some room to play about and be experimental.
So coming from the small town of Christchurch NZ, Maya has launched herself into the musical sphere, gaining success upon success, achieving airplay on many Australian radio stations. Her transition from D.I.Y bedroom artist, to an underground pop female, has been a transition she has pretty much enjoyed and searched for, for many years. “I really like working in the studio. Since I’m working with a producer I find it really good, because I’ve got someone else to bounce around ideas. It’s a really good environment to come up with something creative.”
