Introducing // CHINAH

With just two tracks to their name thus far, CHINAH are quickly making a name for themselves as the best Danish export since bacon, pastries and more recently MØ. The three piece expertly meld high octave keyboard riffs with haunting vocals and strong Scandinavian melodies.

Their debut single ‘Away From Me’ is awash with melancholy and sweeping synths, but the one thing you can’t escape and would never want to escape is the enchanting vocal from band lead vocalist and songwriter Fine Glindvad. ‘Away From Me’ may be the band’s introduction to the world, but unlike a lot of new artists it’s not even their best track, you’ll find that on their forthcoming EP.

Follow up ‘We Go Back’ sees a tempo shift and the addition of a fantastic closing keyboard riff. Again the vocal is at the middle of everything, but the production surrounding the lyrics this time is vast and expensive and moves away from their more minimal beginning. The soundscapes CHINAH create are like individual wonderlands with rabbit holes, tea parties and plenty of more exciting things to find on subsequent listens.

Having toured extensively in their home country the band brought their live set to the UK for the first time this week with a support slot at Notting Hill Arts Club. Delivering a highly polished performance of their recent singles they also showcase tracks from their forthcoming EP. There’s not a single dud and each track feels like it could easily be “the next single”. CHINAH are certainly ones to watch both live and simply in general. The band have their second London outing towards the end of the month for JaJaJa’s Nordic club night, and with Axel Flóvent on the line up too it’s not one to miss.

One thing is sure about CHINAH and their forthcoming rise is you can’t walk away from these songs without playing them over and over, again and again.
